Cashew Loses It

Finally, a return to the downward trend!

Well, it took long enough! This week really seemed beyond impossible. Water retention was the bane of my week. I hopped onto the scale about a week ago to find that it jumped up about 6 lbs overnight, which was immediately followed by my first postpartum visitor. I realize it was water, and it’s still going down, but seeing it read well over 280 was not a happy moment for me. I fully admit, that is why I’m late in posting. I had to really dig down deep and keep telling myself “Yo, it’s water! Seriously, not fat! I’m still kicking butt and taking name!” Today, FINALLY, we’re back in the right direction- 276.2, which is a good solid lb under my last weigh in a week + a few days ago.

Scales are fickle, but tape measures don’t lie.

8/1 →9/1→10/1

  • Waist: 56″ → 52″ → 50″ (-6″)
  • Hips: 58″ → 56.5″ → 54.75″ (-3.25″)
  • Neck: 18″ →16.5″ → 16″ (-2″)
  • Wrist: 7″ → 6.5″  → 6.25″ (-.75″)
  • Thigh: 28″ → 27″ → 25″ (-3″)
  • Calf: 22.5″ → 21″  → 21″ (-1.5″)

So, that’s where we’re at now, it’s definitely a change!

I’ve also noticed that I’m eating more lately, but I’m also exercising like it’s going out of style (well, for me at least) but I’m going to need to keep tabs on that big time. I’ve joined a online weight loss support group. Not that my friends aren’t supportive, but sometimes it’s nice to have someone in the same boat to talk to.

This months goals are:

  1. Take meds and check sugars (I’ve been slacking on the sugar checks, and I did miss 2 pills this month)
  2. Keep exercising at least 5 days a week
  3. Really keep tabs on what I’m eating to make sure it’s not going to become a problem later.
  4. Don’t blow it over halloween. It’s not worth it!

We got this!

(8/25/14) Was Just Thinking

About goals and stuff like that. About a month ago, when I started this endeavour I bought myself a ‘goal dress’… which is something I don’t usually do. It was this one:

With the awesome cross back. When I bought it, I was a solid size 30. The largest I’d ever been in my life. I got it in a 24. When I got it, I tried it on and whoa, was it tight.

I tried it on Sunday, and you know what, it fit. Well, if not a touch loose 🙂 Woohoo FTW!

So, I bought myself a new goal dress, but this is going to be a way way way far away goal… it’s the Harry Potter Marauder’s map dress on hot topic… in a straight size xl.

I figure that’s probably a 50-70 lb trip from now, but that’s ok. I can wait… I have the motivation of 1) getting healthy and 2) wearing that piece of awesomeness!

I also think the promise of a new steampunk costume is really a good thing to work towards too… I have such plans for a new corset!

(8/1/14)Goal Re-eval, Measurements, and What’s the buzz, I’ll tell you whatsa’ happenin’

Well, here we are, a couple days in, and boy have our goals changed.

The purpose of this self improvement has changed- I went from ‘Well, I just want to get healthy’ to the wakeup call I got earlier this week.

Sunday into monday I had what I thought was a migraine, and then I checked my sugar on a whim because I thought I was having a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) reaction. Boy, was I wrong. My sugar was well into the 200’s, which is WAY WAY WAY too high, and I just felt awful. Long story short, I ended up in the hospital for a couple hours because I was dehydrated and was referred to my primary care physician.

Yep, I have the ‘beetus. I am not proud of this at all, but I have to take care of myself so I can take care of everyone else (as is my usual deal.) The doctor told me he enjoys taking care of people with DM, and he wants to be aggressive in my treatment. He started me on Metformin, which will help to drop my sugars by having me be less insulin resistant, but has some unhappy side effects (that’d be anorexia, nausea and diarrhea. No wonder people tend to report weight loss on it!) I go back on Sunday to talk about my labs and have another medication added to my regimen. He says it’ll help me lose weight as well. I’m interested in seeing what’s up with that.

So, onto the meat and non-potatoes of this post

  1. Take my medicine as prescribed every day without fail.
  2. Check and log my sugars daily without fail. I’ve decided that the best time to check my sugar is before dinner, I tend to have my fasting period of at least 5 hours prior to then.
  3. Continue to eat under 1850 calories keto for the time being, I will recalculate my needs after Sundays weigh in. I haven’t been eating too well thanks to the constant nausea and diarrhea, but it’s supposed to pass. (I actually just ate some chicken and I’m just waiting for it to come up.)
  4. Continue to weigh in and photograph body (PA and LAT, and face) on sundays, Measurements on the first of the month and goal re-evals on the first as well. I’ve got to find my tape measure.

These are initial measurements, so I’ll compare these monthly.

  • Waist: 56″
  • Hips: 58″
  • Neck: 18″
  • Wrist: 7″
  • Thigh: 28″
  • Calf: 22.5″

(7/27/14)Week one, Day one

Lord help us all. Or at least me. That’s ok, seriously. Lets get this shit started.

Weight: 312.6

The pics are headless because I didn’t feel like running far back enough to include it. I should probably include one of my face too…

Yeah, 312.6, better than I thought it would be (I thought I was closer to 340. At least that’s how I feel, and it doesn’t feel good. Onto the meat sans potatoes, under the cut!

Short term:

1) Go into ketosis, and stay there! (RTS: Buy keto pee strips.)

2) 299. 13 lbs. Very doable. I’m giving myself 2 months, not as a ‘or die’ deadline, but if I’m not there in 2 months, I’ve got some evaluating to do Lucy.

3) Maintain this blog, it’s passworded, so if you have it, you know, you’re my friend. I trust you to get on my case about it. Seriously! Goal is Pictures on Sunday, Weigh in on Sunday, Not stressing over time of day- I know I retain water like a mofo. Maybe Measurements Monthly? That sounds good, Measure on the first of the month.

4) Reevaluate goals monthly, on the first of the month. I should be in Keto by then, that’s next week.

Long term:

1) Hit 180. Thats very long term. I’m anticipating that at a 132 lb total loss (for big goal.)at 2 lbs per week it should take: 66 weeks. As in next summer I’ll smash that mofo. I hope. This will be attempt #3 at a big loss, I know I can do it, I’m at the have to point with my damned knees and hips- I’m in constant pain, and I’m only 33 years old.

2) (more realistic) Fit into that size 18 miniskirt that makes me look like a tart.

1)Starting back on the Low carb/Keto train, starting today.

2)Gonna log calories in my new fat book (appropriate, eh?). Sticking to about 1850. (as per calorie spreadsheet. I’m hoping to dry up the boobies, so it should help. I might use MFP, but it intimidates me sometimes, we’ll play that one by ear.

3) Gonna start to love water more than Michael Phelps. (I am not typically a water drinker)

What’s goin’ on?:

Woke up with a massive leg cramp (like in my shin, not in my calf, thank goodness!). Gotta ask, the water rule, it’s half your weight in oz, right? I gotta fill up my water pitcher- I just got a new one yesterday, it holds 1 gallon of water, and it should be nearly enough (I know I drink enough other fluids to make up the difference) I also got a new nice hot pink water bottle, it holds 20 oz, so that’d be 6 in a 24 hour period. It’s also clear plastic, so I can see what I got left, oh, and it has a non-fancy top, with a wide opening. My metal 32 oz bottle is beautiful but is perpetually funky with it’s weird narrow top opening and fancy spring loaded top. What else. I’m not going to stress over exercising yet, once I get into being keto, which should take a couple of days, I’ll figure out what I want to do at that point. So, that’s it, that’s where I stand this morning.
